About Boone

Boone is the county seat of Watauga County and the home of Appalachian State University. The town is named for famous pioneer and explorer Daniel Boone, and every summer since 1952 has hosted an outdoor amphitheater portrayal of the life and times of its namesake.

The mountains and the natural, scenic beauty are Boone's greatest assets. That's why folks want to live, visit, go to school, visit in the summer, ski...and return year after year to Boone NC and the surrounding areas of the High Country.

In 2005, Boone was recognized by travel journalists as the ultimate outdoor adventure destination in the Southeast, even in North America!
